Service Description

It is very common for depression to set in during our aging years.  There are several causes: Brain chemistry - an imbalance of neurotransmitters, including serotonin and dopamine, contributes to the development of depression. Genetics - if you have a biological parent or sibling with depression, you're about three times as likely to develop the condition as the general population. Stressful life events - difficult experiences, such as the death of a loved one, trauma, divorce, isolation and lack of support can trigger depression. Medical conditions - chronic pain and chronic conditions can lead to depression. About 25% of cancer patients experience depression. Medication - some medications can cause depression as a side effect. Substance use, including alcohol, can also cause depression or make it worse. Gut-brain axis - stress shapes the microbiota via the efferent grain -gut axis, and the gut microbiota consequently modulates neural circuits via the afferent gut-brain axis. This therapy is not aimed at clinical depression, persistent depressive disorder or bipolar disorder so it is important to get a correct diagnosis from your treating general practitioner before commencing this treatment.  They may prescribe pharmaceutical intervention for more serious depression which often comes with side effects (see above).  You will be encouraged to chose between a back massage (if you can lie on your front for 20 mins) or foot/calf and hand/arm massage where a carefully selected blend of essential oils will be used for breath work and for the gentle massage. Both modalities are clinically proven to gently help lift the mood and therefore help you to feel more positive about life.  Includes a therapeutic bottle of the same blend for you to take home.  You will then need to  book another session in a month's time for treatment and review.
